VolumeLock

A plugin for Squeezebox Server, SqueezeCenter, and SlimServer

Squeezebox Touch owners: if you want to lock your player's output at 100%, you should consider my "Volume Fixed at 100%" patch instead, as it is more effective.

Squeezebox Server 7.4 and newer: you will find VolumeLock with the "All 3rd Party Plugins" collection. SqueezeCenter 7.3: you can use the repository URL https://tuxreborn.netlify.com/slim/slim7/repodata.xml in the web Extension Downloader interface instead of manually unzipping the plugin.

Other versions are available.

Releases for SqueezeCenter 7 are available here.
Use VolumeLock.zip for SlimServer 6.5.x or VolumeLock.pm.6.3 for SlimServer 6.x older than 6.5.x; install as VolumeLock.pm

This plugin allows you to either lock the volume of a Squeezebox (so that it can neither be raised nor lowered) or to set a maximum volume for a Squeezebox. VolumeLock works with every different way you could normally set or change a Squeezebox's volume -- infrared remote control, buttons or knobs on the Squeezebox, Web interface, or 3rd-party control apps like iPeng on an iPhone.

Basically, I wanted to hook one of my Squeezeboxes up to a receiver & use the receiver's volume control, *not* the SB variable output. Generally I like all my receiver's source devices to have equal/normalized output levels, e.g., so that switching between my SB and the receiver's tuner section will not appreciably change the volume coming out the speakers. ;-)

This plugin allows me to find an SB output level I like and use the remote to lock that SB at that level so I won't worry about accidentally (or lazily) pressing that SB's volume buttons.

The plugin only has UIs for old Squeezeboxes (Boom, Classic, Transporter) and the Squeezebox Server Web interface. On an old Squeezebox, navigate to the top Extras menu, choose "VolumeLock" and follow the instructions. For newer Squeezeboxes, set the volume to be the maximum you wish to allow and then use the Squeezebox Server Web interface to set that as the maximum volume or the only permissable volume.

Radio and Touch owners: please note that VolumeLock has a few limitations you should be aware of.

If you have the volume locked, the (theoretical! doesn't exist on the SlimDevices remotes) Mute button is also disabled (SoftSqueeze has a Mute button).
